Equipment

I battled on bodging preparation of ingredients for years using tools really not designed for the job. Eventually I gave up and invested in a blender and have never looked back. My stubbornness in not getting one really did hinder me. They’re so much cheaper on the net than in the high street.

Steps

1- Prepare your ingredients: 1 can of whole tomatoes, a large handful of fresh coriander/cilantro, ½ an onion, 1 whole jalapeno (or ¼ a jar of pre-prepared), 1clove garlic, 1 lime (juiced), 1/4 teaspoon sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoons ground cumin, chillies to taste.

2- Place the tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, garlic, sugar, salt, cumin, lime juice, and coriander/cilantro and a couple of small chillies in a blender.

3- Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you’d like (some people prefer chunkier salsa than others).

4- Test to gauge how many extra chillies you may need, and add a half at a time.

5- Test for seasoning and adjust as required.

6- Place the salsa in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Tips

The above recipe is for tomato salsa, however should you be so inclined, you could replace the tomato with mango or pineapple or any other sweet yet slightly tangy fruit.
