Steps

1- Heat up the pan at a high temperature. Whilst doing so, slice the bread and cheese.

2- Butter either the pan or the outside of each slice of bread. You can use olive oil is you wish to make it less fatty.

3- Add the sandwich, readymade, to the pan. Immediately turn down the heat and cover the pan to help the cheese melt.

4- After 90 seconds check to see whether the lower slice of bread has browned. When it has, flip and cover again, perhaps adding fresh butter should the pan be starting to dry out.

5- The second side will brown faster so check regularly after 45 seconds.

6- Once brown, remove and wait to cool slightly before devouring.

Tips

A grilled sandwich maker cooks sandwiches more evenly with less chance of burning, plus it seals the edges letting you invent lots of very tasty designs.

Don’t use a toaster as the cheese will make a huge mess!

Try lots of different flavours but if you’re using raw meats such as bacon, be sure to cook them first before putting them into the uncooked sandwich.

Mixing a chicken stock cube into the butter that you’re cooking the sandwich in will provide for a more savoury taste.
