  2. To dice or to slice? Do you want cubes or slices? Work out what form you want the flesh to be presented in before you proceed.
  3. Being careful not to cut through the skin, cut parallel slices into the mango flesh.
  4. Either scoop the mango out of the cheek using a spoon (for slices), or turn the mango inside by pushing up the skin from underneath (for squares).

Equipment

If you regularly consume mango then consider picking up a mango splitter. They’re super easy for quick processing of a mango. I tried searching for one in the shops for a few days but soon gave up and just ordered one online.

How to Cut a Mango

Knowing how to cut a mango can ensure that you get the most flesh out of this exotic fruit. The following how to explains two different techniques depending on what form you want the flesh to be presented. A mango has one long, flat seed at its core. Once you learn how to work around the seed, the rest is easy.

Steps

1- Stand the mango on a cutting board stem hold it steady, end down. Place your knife about 1/4″ from the widest centre line and slice vertically downwards through the mango. Turn the mango around and repeat for the other side. These “cheeks” of flesh should leave mostly just the mango seed in the middle.

2- To dice or to slice? Do you want cubes or slices? Work out what form you want the flesh to be presented in before you proceed.

3- Being careful not to cut through the skin, cut parallel slices into the mango flesh. If you want slices, move to part 4 from here. If you want to dice, turn the mango cheek 90 degrees and then cut another set of parallel slices to make squares.

4- Either scoop the mango out of the cheek using a spoon (for slices), or turn the mango inside by pushing up the skin from underneath (for squares).

Tips

Don’t use a chopping board that you regularly use to chop savoury foods on for cutting fruits, as otherwise you’ll be left with garlic tasting mango!
