How to Cook Salmon Fillet

  1. If frying, brush the fish with melted butter or oil. 
  2. Start cooking the fillet skin-side down. Heat a griddle pan or frying pan until hot, then lay the salmon fillets in, skin-side down. 
  3. Fry the fillet for 4-5 minutes on this side until the salmon starts to change colour in the middle. 
  4. Turn. Turn the fillets over for a further three minutes until the salmon is just cooked.
  5. If grilling, brush both the pan and the fish with oil or melted butter. 
  6. Start cooking skin-side up. Place the fillet in the pan, skin side up. 
  7. Hot grill the filler. Cook under a very hot grill for four minutes on each side. 
  8. Check that the fillet is firm. Grill until the salmon is opaque and firm and serve immediately.

Equipment

To pan fry top-end meat/fish at a high temperature without sticking, it’s most definitely worth spending a little money on a decent non-stick pan. Be sure to read reviews, particularly looking out for those that describe the longevity of the product. I prefer using those that don’t just have a ‘non-stick coating’ as often the coating wears and flakes.

Tips

How you choose the dress the salmon is entirely up to you, but whatever you do, do not overpower the delicate taste!
